Yesterday, Tues., Sept. 27 was 608today’s first birthday. Forgive our tardiness, we were quite busy celebrating the day. Join us for a drive down memory lane (or maybe it’s just East Wash) to reminisce on some of our favorite moments.
Year in review
First, thank you. Some of the best parts of this job are reading your emails, meeting you in public, and hearing how much you’re enjoying 608’s work. Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or just subscribed today (welcome, btw), we love you + appreciate you more than you know.
Not only have we been welcomed into your inboxes this past year, but we like to think we’ve taught you a thing or two along the way. From explaining how to get a library card to offering up our best gas-conscious travel alternatives, we are always looking for hot tips + tricks to share with our fellow Madisonians.
More selfishly, we also have had the pleasure of trying out some of the 608’s hottest spots while on the job. We sat down with the Harvey House, now a New York Times favorite, to talk food + biz. We were first in line for the opening of RED’s sibling restaurant, Jacknife . And most recently, we celebrated the grand opening of Prost!, East Washington’s new German beer hall.
Staff picks
We sent out our first newsletter on Sept. 27, 2021 + have been gracing your inboxes every weekday since. Here are a few of our favorite pieces.
9 unwritten rules of Madison | Some unspoken, but well-understood rules of the 608. Let us know which ones we missed for round two.
21 ways to get hygge | A Danish term for warm coziness, this piece warms our hearts + is a great seasonal read. 🍂
24 hours of eating at Kwik Trip | We’re not sure whether to feel bad for or be jealous of City Editor Ryan. He spent a day only eating Kwik Trip food, how about a whole week next time?
This past year has been a blast + we can’t wait to keep on growing with all of you, 608. Have a favorite story of your own? Share it with us.
