  • 1,966 Madisonians will throw their caps in the air on Sunday morning at the UW-Madison winter commencement ceremony. At the Kohl Center, NBA All-Star Michael Finley, Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin, and student speaker Jnae Thompson will address the graduating class.
Travel
  • Where will the coming Amtrak station be located in Madison? City planners have narrowed the possibilities down to six locations, including areas on the east side, north side, and downtown. (WMTV)

  • A startup in Middleton is starting up with electrostatic motors. C-Motive, now with 18 employees, is trying to create the world’s first commercially viable electrostatic motor. The motors use the force of static cling to generate energy rather than magnetism. (Wisconsin State Journal)

  • There will be a new safe haven in Dane County for survivors of sex trafficking. There was a recent groundbreaking for the nonprofit Zeteo Community. It will be a source of housing for women who have been sex trafficked and will provide care for survivors for 12 to 18 months. (WMTV)

  • As Epic Systems’ campus expands, so does the need to alleviate growing traffic issues. Verona and Madison Metro have created a new agreement to increase bus service hours to 7,689 hours in December, reaching 11,457 hours by this coming spring. (Verona Press)

  • After over 30 years in education, Monona Grove School District’s Superintendent, Dr. Dan Olson, is retiring at the end of the school year. Having led the district for 11 years, Olson expressed gratitude for working with “Team MG.” His retirement follows being named the 2023 Superintendent of the Year. (Channel 3000)
Civic
  • Wisconsin drivers, under a new law, will be able to add emergency contact info when signing up or renewing driver’s licenses. The legislation will take effect next summer, but drivers will not be required to add the information. (Channel 3000)

  • Four members of the UW-Madison women’s volleyball team were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America teams this week. Sarah Franklin, already named the 2023 Big Ten Player of the Year, earned first-team honors. Anna Smrek, Carter Booth, and Devyn Robinson were also honored. (Madison365)
