Each week, the City of Madison’s committees, boards, and councils host dozens of meetings to discuss the current goings on. Most of these meetings are open for public comment, here’s how you can get involved.

Find a meeting of your interest by browsing the Meetings Schedule page. You’ll see a “Register for Public Comment” button when you click on a meeting. Note:Not all meetings will have this option.
Now, you’ll find yourself on the meeting’s registration page. Browse the agenda items by clicking the “View all agenda items” link.
Each item is numbered, you can enter one agenda number in the “Agenda item #" field.
Choose whether you support or oppose the agenda item you listed — or opt for neither.
Choose whether or not you’d like to speak at the meeting. If you choose to speak, keep an eye on your email as you’ll receive further instructions.
Maybe you don’t have a specific agenda item to speak on, but you’d still like to relay information relevant to a certain committee or meeting — like comments or handouts.
Instead of registering for public comment, you can send an email to the meeting holders. You’ll find the contact information at the very top of the meeting’s registration page.

Lincoln Avenue Capital plans to replace the Ultrazone Laser Tag strip mall with a four-story housing project. The developer also has approval for a 553-unit affordable housing project near the former Oscar Mayer site. (Madison.com)

Midwest Vintage Flea vendor applications are now open. The event will take place Saturday, Nov. 4-Sunday Nov. 5 at Garver Feed Mill. First consideration goes to vendors who have previously attended, but the event aims to incorporate at least 25% of first-time vendors.
Biz
It’s Madison Black Restaurant Week now through Sunday, Aug. 20. Vote online for your favorite local Black-owned restaurant, or stop by the Food Taste Jamboree at FEED Kitchens on Sunday, Aug. 20 to taste and vote in person.
Drink
The Cap Times’ Madison Old Fashioned Week runs this Friday, Aug. 18-Friday, Aug. 25. Local watering holes will serve established favorites or innovative creations for you to vote on. Last year’s victor, Merchant, impressed with the Crème Brulée Old Fashioned. (Cap Times)
Environment
Become a Water Steward through Sustain Dane’s educational program. You’ll learn about local water systems, conservation, and restoration at the in-person class on Friday, Sept. 15. Registration costs $15, and the class runs from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Closing
Closing this month after two decades, the African Market and AM Beauty Supply cites challenges from online trends and COVID-19’s impact. Owner Agatha Morris, originally from Ghana, will transition to an online beauty supply store to sustain community service. (WKOW)
