The City of Madison’s committees, boards, and councils often host meetings to discuss current goings on. These meetings are where local government makes decisions that shape Madison, and public participation gives you a chance to get involved.

Meetings this week

Note: Each of the following meetings can be attended virtually via Zoom.

Common Council | Tuesday, July 2 | 6:30 p.m.
A presentation will be given on homeless services, eviction prevention, and the Madison Customer Assistance Program.

Homeless Services Consortium Board of Directors | Wednesday, July 3 | 1 p.m.
Action items for this meeting include discussing Continuum of Care grants. If you have other topics in mind, feel free to email the committee.

Police Civilian Oversight Board Community Engagement Subcommittee | Wednesday, July 3 | 6 p.m.
Community event planning for the rest of 2024 will be covered, as well as brainstorming future agenda topics.

Madison Arts Commission - Public Art Standing Committee | Monday, July 8 | 12 p.m.

✏️ Register to participate

Pro tip: Watch previous meetings to get up to date.
  1. Find a meeting of your interest by browsing the Meetings Schedule page. You’ll see a “Register for Public Comment” button when you click on a meeting. Note: Not all meetings will have this option.
  2. Now, you’ll find yourself on the meeting’s registration page. Browse the agenda items by clicking the “View all agenda items” link.
  3. Enter an agenda number that interests you in the “Agenda item #" field.
  4. Choose whether you support or oppose the agenda item you listed — or opt for neither.
  5. Choose whether or not you’d like to speak at the meeting. If you choose to speak, keep an eye on your email as you’ll receive further instructions.
Maybe you don’t have a specific agenda item to speak on, but you’d still like to relay information relevant to a certain committee or meeting. Instead of registering for public comment, you can send an email to the meeting holders. You’ll find the contact information at the top of the meeting’s registration page.

Interested in joining a committee? We got you covered.

This newly launched program asks shoppers to purchase extra produce at local farmers’ markets to be donated. The goods will be distributed after the markets close. Can’t make it to the market? Donate to the GoFundMe instead.

Glean Food
After Saturday Dane County Farmers’ Markets, volunteers meet at the East Washington entrance of Capitol Square to collect surplus food from vendors who would rather donate it than compost it.

From the editor
In anticipation of Fourth of July weekend, I’m trying to find a good place to watch fireworks from afar (I’m not a huge fan of big crowds nor explosives). If you know of any lowkey spots on the isthmus, let me know.
