We asked Madisonians to tell us the best food truck in the 608, here are a few favorites from locals:

El Wiscorican | 1225 W. Dayton St. | Tuesday-Friday 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Puerto Rican fare including meat plates and sides.

Surco | Library Mall or Capitol Square | Mon.-Fri. 11 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
Wide range of Peruvian cuisine.

Saigon Sandwich | 299 N. Charter St. | Weekdays 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Traditional Vietnamese Báhn Mì sandwiches.

Common Pasta | Capital Square | Mon.-Thu. 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Hit the streets

If you think you have what it takes to start your own food truck, follow this recipe:
  1. Create an account on the licenses + permits portal
  2. Obtain a basic street vendor license before applying for food vending
  3. Complete proper business registration
  4. Apply for a license/registration (choose “Vending - Mall Food” in your portal)
All Mall/Concourse food vending sites for the current vending year have already been assigned. Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, Aug. 1 for a chance to secure a food truck site for next year.

State
  • Gov. Tony Evers signed a reduced income tax cut into law, resulting in an average decrease of $3 per month for taxpayers. The analysis released by the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau reveals that the average tax cut under Evers’ signed plan is $36 a year. (Channel 3000)
Civic
  • The Department of Health Services is seeking public input on the allocation of a forthcoming settlement of approximately $15 million from JUUL Labs, an e-cigarette manufacturer. Wisconsinites can share their opinions during an online listening session or by taking a survey. (WPR)
Sports
  • The Wisconsin men’s basketball team is set to face Virginia at the Fort Myers Tip-Off in Florida on Monday, Nov. 20. The tournament also features West Virginia and SMU. This will be the seventh time UW faced the Cavaliers.
Eat
  • Culver’s has introduced its new Signature Sauce nationwide. The creamy + tangy sauce features buttermilk, Parmesan, and a hint of bleu cheese, designed to enhance the flavors of various menu items. Culver’s has also expanded its menu with Ken’s Boom Boom Sauce and Della Terra Marinara. (NBC 15)

How it works

  • Sign up — requires full name, email, and phone number
  • Click “View Passport” — save the email to easily return to your passport
  • Choose a trail — each trail offers different check-ins
