We’re only one month into the six-month golf season here in the 608. There are four golf courses that operate under the City of Madison — if you want to get in on the action, we’ve got you covered.
Madison Area Retiree Golfer Association
MARGA was started in 1978 by a group of Madison-area men who wanted to play on a scheduled basis. Today, seven leagues play at all four city courses.
This Saturday, May 20 is Volunteer Day at the Glen. Reach out to coordinator Dave Vetrovec to get involved with this ongoing volunteer program that covers land management, horticultural design, and program support.

Our backgrounds, lifestyles, and genes play important rolesin our health. We can leave a better health future for generations to come by helping researchers find new ways to keep us healthier, longer.
That’s why some join the All of Us Research Program. Others say they simply want to help researchers create better tests and treatments one day. By studying various health factors, researchers may find ways to improve health for you, your family, and future generations.

La Kitchenette, a Willy Street French café, will close on Friday, June 16 after over six years in business. A five-year lease renewal wasn’t in the cards for owner Virginie Ok, but she hopes someone will continue the restaurant’s legacy. (Cap Times)
Development
Madison leaders held their first in-person meeting to discuss the design of a permanent men’s shelter on the city’s east side. The plans include a 42,046-sqft facility with amenities such as toilets, showers, a kitchen, parking, and access to the Bus Rapid Transit system. (Channel 3000)

There’s nothing quite like Madison in the spring. The trees are blooming, the weather is warming, and the students are leaving. This past weekend, over 8,000 students earned their UW-Madison alumni status.
We compiled a list of some notable former Badgers with whom the new grads now share this title:
John Bardeen — class of 1928 | Physicist and engineer, first person to win two Nobel Prizes in the same field
Gaylord Nelson — class of 1942 | Founder of Earth Day, US senator
Nancy O. Lurie — class of 1945 | Set the precedent for the use of anthropologists as key witnesses in land claim disputes
My older brother is a huge golfer, but I think it’s safe to say it’s not a skill that runs in the family. Coincidentally, we’re going to Blind Shot Social Club together this week to try out the golf simulators — I think I’m more excited about the goat cheese balls than the golf balls.
