Get your pencils out — it’s time for the third annual We Read Youth Voices contest.
What is it?
The writing contest is put on by Forward Madison FC + the Wisconsin Book Festival with support from the Madison Public Library Foundation.
This year’s theme, “Moving Forward - Together,” encourages kids to write stories of empathy, understanding differences, and new perspectives.
Kids have from April 3-June 30 to submit.
Age | Word count limit:
- < 8 | 250 words
- 8-12 | 750 words
- 13-18 | 1,000 words
The following workshops are available to supplement the writing process:
- Monday, March 27 | 2-4 p.m. | Sequoya Library
- Tuesday, March 28 | 2-3 p.m. | Meadowridge Library
- Wednesday, March 29 | 10-11:30 a.m. | Central Library
- Thursday, March 30 | 2-3 p.m. | Meadowridge Library
Prizes
The top three winners will be recognized on the field at a Madison Forward game and featured at the Wisconsin Book Festival fall celebration.
First place will receive $500 and a writing camp scholarship, while the two runner-ups will walk away with $250 each.
