Though the holiday season is coming to a close, we’ve still got some giving spirit left in the tank. With causes supporting film festivals, local libraries, city parks + more, check out our roundup of some great volunteer opportunities for the new year.

For the film lover:
Wisconsin Film Festival | Support the UW-Madison initiative with pre-festival event setup, survey + engage with audience members, and support post-festival tasks.

For the kid at heart:
Cambridge Community Activities Program | Volunteer as a youth center assistant — hang out with both kids and staff playing video games, sports + more while serving as mentors for youths.

For someone with a green thumb:
City of Madison Parks Division | Become a volunteer flower gardener — adopt a city park and nurture your very own pre-planned plot + greenspace.
Olbrich Botanical Gardens | Join the volunteer program for opportunities working in the gardens pruning, greeting guests + engaging in the library.
PBS Wisconsin | Help support the Garden and Landscape Expo hosted by PBS in collaboration with the UW-Madison Horticulture Team. Seeking volunteers for all positions.

For the book worm:
Madison Public Libraries | Serve as the volunteer outreach coordinator and be the front face for others looking to volunteer with MPL. Help screen applicants + support library friends in daily management tasks.

For someone who loves to hit the open road:
The River Food Pantry | As a river runner, you’ll get the opportunity to help deliver food to families in need around the Dane area — whether that’s one delivery or more, each run makes a difference.

For the shutterbug:
Madison Area Bus Advocates | Be a grassroots photojournalist tasked with helping celebrate the best features of our transit systems such as safe bus stops + well-lit crosswalks — a picture is worth a thousand words after all, isn’t it?

For someone who prefers to eat local:
Dane County Farmers’ Market | DCFM is looking for a farmers’ market food access assistant to help support their mission in making locally produced food available to all.

For the social butterfly:
LIFT Dane | Join on as a social media volunteer to help support the LIFT mission by creating adept content, scheduling social posts + managing digital feeds. Proficiencies in relevant social media platforms and applications desired.

With a city as happening as ours, we know more opportunities will continue to pop up as we get moving into 2022. Use this guide to help kickstart your new year of goodwill and community engagement, knowing we’ll be sure to update this conversation regularly.
