Madisonians can adopt a cow to fight local food insecurity
Adopt a Cow has provided 300,000 gallons of milk to those facing food insecurity. | Photo by 608today
You can help Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin provide milk to those facing food insecurity by adopting a cow.
Okay, not literally. Thanks to those who symbolically adopt dairy cows, the program has been able to provide 300,000 gallons of milk to those in need since launching a decade ago.
How it works
Visit the campaign’s website and pick a cow you’d like to adopt. Once you’ve donated (any amount is appreciated), you will receive a copy of your “adoption” certificate and a coupon for a free quart of ice cream from Sassy Cow Creamery.
Donations will go toward purchasing milk that will be distributed to local food pantries.
The first $65,000 donated will be matched by the Werndli Charitable Fund, Alliant Energy Foundation, and other sponsors.
