Traffic
  • The Crazylegs Classic 8K starts at 10 a.m. this Saturday, April 27. Expect traffic delays and detours on the western half of the isthmus (and keep in mind it’s also farmers’ market day).
Development
  • The former Madison Gospel Tabernacle will be transformed into the Atwood Music Hall by 2025. The building at 1925 Winnebago St. has been purchased by The Christensen Company. Toffer Christensen, co-owner of the Bur Oak, will spearhead the transformation. (Wisconsin State Journal)
Art
  • Come June, people will be flocking to the bike path behind the Kohl Center for OhYa Studios’ new football field-sized flamingo mural. You may recognize OhYa Studio from their work on the Johnson Street Laundromat mural. (WKOW)
Opening
  • Centro Hispano, the nonprofit that provides programs and services to support Dane County’s Latino population, is officially opening its new $20 million building at 2403 Cypress Way. The public is invited for a ribbon cutting and facility tours on Friday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m. (Channel 3000)
Civic
  • What do you want for Dane County? Its Board of Supervisors wants to know, and will have three focus group sessions to hear what matters to residents. The first takes place 5:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 2 at the Middleton Public Library.
Sports
  • The Madison Mallards and the (newly named) Madison Night Mares will take the field at Warner Park soon, now with $300,000 worth of new turf. The renovated field will help mitigate cancellations due to Wisconsin’s unpredictable weather. (Wisconsin State Journal)
Cause
  • Bikes for Kids Wisconsin is wheely excited about distributing 1,400 bicycles over the next two weeks to local underserved communities. Bike giveaway days are Saturday, April 17, Saturday, May 4, and Saturday, May 11. Volunteer opportunities are available.

Boat launch piers have returned to many of Madison’s lakeside parks. Here’s what you need to know before planning your boat day.

Permits

This year’s lake access permits to launch motorboats, sailboats, kayaks, and canoes are valid through March 31, 2025.

Dane County resident pricing:
  • Daily | $8
  • Annual | $50
  • Annual for senior and/or disabled | $25
  • Annual for military or veterans | $25
  • Replacements or copies | $20
