Sports
  • The Badgers men’s hockey team is heading to the NCAA tournament. Their first game will be on Friday, March 29 at 4:30 p.m. They’ll play Quinnipiac in Providence, Rhode Island. The women’s hockey team lost yesterday in the NCAA championship game to Ohio State.
Travel
  • Electric vehicle charging stations will be constructed across Wisconsin now that $78 million in federal funds has become available. Roadways benefiting from the 64 new stations include Interstate 94, linking Madison and Milwaukee. Construction could begin this fall. (Cap Times)
Open
  • Guimo’s Mexican Restaurant is now open in its new Sun Prairie location. Now at 239 E. Main St., the eatery moved from its Bristol Street location that originally opened in 2017. “We love the people here,” said owner Gustavo Martinez. “We couldn’t be more happy to be here.” (Sun Prairie Star)
Art
  • Overture Center’s spring galleries have sprung. New exhibitions are now up in Galleries I, II, and III. The exhibits feature floral pieces from Wisconsinites, half of whom are local to Dane County. There will be an artist reception on Friday, March 29 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Outdoors
  • Friday fish fries soon might not have as much walleye. Due to early ice thaws disrupting spawning, Wisconsin’s walleye population is dropping. At the top of the food chain in many ecosystems, like Lake Mendota, walleye decline can have a domino effect on the entirety of the lake. (Badger Herald)
Environment
  • Madisonians are invited to celebrate Earth Day with Sustain Dane. The organization is partnering with Ian’s Pizza for a community cleanup in the Starkweather Neighborhood on Saturday, April 13 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Volunteers will get free pizza. Register now.
Holiday
  • Veterans Day is now an official holiday for Dane County employees. County supervisors voted unanimously last week to make Nov. 11 an official holiday in honor of US veterans, bringing the total number of holidays for county workers to 10. (Wisconsin State Journal)
Announced
  • There’s a new chapter in the life of Tana Elias. After working for the Madison Public Library for the past 30 years, Elias is now its new director. “I am deeply honored,” Elias said, who will start her role on May 12 following the library board’s formal approval.
Cause
  • Badger Prairie Needs Network is getting $1.1 million from the federal government to support renovations, expand food storage capacity, and address the rising need for food assistance. Last year, the Verona food pantry distributed 2.1 million pounds of food. (In Business)

There are rain and snow showers in the mix for spring break. Sigh. Maybe it’ll be sunnier at the end of the month so I can go out and watch the UW softball team take the field against the Cornhuskers.
