Madison is full of artists. From musicians to dancers, poets to composers, Madisonians appreciate culture.

If you’re a visual artist in Madison, organizations are seeking your work.

ARTS for ALL Wisconsin
The organization is seeking visual artists age 5+ who identify as having a disability for its CREATIVE POWER showcase. Submissions may be 2D, 3D, or digital. Award winners will be part of the ARTS for ALL Wisconsin Traveling Exhibition. Submissions are due by Sunday, March 17.

Dane Arts
Part of the Dane County government, Dane Arts accepts original artworks in all mediums for its annual poster and calendar. Artists must be Dane County residents. The application for the 2025 calendar and poster will reopen this summer.

Hatch Art House
The gallery features artists based in Wisconsin emphasizing affordable and upcycled art. It carries 60+ artists, including fine artists, jewelry makers, and crafters. Find out if you meet all the requirements.

Madison Arts Commission
MAC provides a plethora of opportunities for artists and organizations, including grants and commissions.

Overture Center
One of the preeminent arts organizations in Madison, the Overture Center has three gallery spaces. Though the organization is not actively seeking artists, artists can fill out an expression of interest form at any time.

Tenney Lapham Art Walk
Taking place on Saturday, June 23, the walk allows artists to exhibit their work in their homes, on their porches, or in their garages. Contact the organization for more information.

WORT-FM
Madison’s listener-supported community radio station is seeking a muralist to paint some of its exterior. The application deadline is Monday, March 25 at 5 p.m.

Number
  • $118 million. That is how much funding the federal government is recommending for the second phase of Madison’s Bus Rapid Transit system. Phase two will run from the North side, through downtown, to Fitchburg, and begins operations in 2028. (Wisconsin State Journal)
Traffic
  • Starting today, Dempsey Road is closed from Cottage Grove Road to Maher Avenue until August. The city is replacing underground utilities and will reconstruct the roadway. Bicyclists will need to use the Lake Loop detour.
Sports
  • Local curling fans are swept up in excitement over the UW-Madison curling team becoming national champions. The team, in its first season, won in Rice Lake last week. (WMTV)
Legacy
  • Marv Miller, the founder of Madison’s beloved Greenbush Bakery, died last week at the age of 82. Miller, “The Donut Man,” had no bakery experience before starting Greenbush in 1996.
Edu
  • UW-Milwaukee’s two-year campus in Waukesha will close after the spring 2025 semester due to dwindling enrollment and budgetary concerns. Enrollment there has declined by 70% in the last decade. (Cap Times)

  • You burrata vote for the best type of cheese in Wisconsin. Alice in Dairyland’s new Wisconsin Artisan Cheese Bracket competition pits state-made cheeses like gouda, colby jack, and gorgonzola against each other. Voting will continue for the next few weeks.

  • Bradley Whitford, the Emmy Award-winning actor from “The West Wing,” went to Madison East High School. In the Arts Educators Save the World podcast, hosted by UW-Madison professor Erica Halverson, Whitford highlights his time as an actor at the school.

Summer is coming and with it, the American Players Theatre’s season. The Spring Green arts organization performs in an outdoor space, The Hill, and an intimate indoor space, The Touchstone.
