With the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments just around the corner, we’re joining the fun of bracket competitions with a face-off of our own with our 608today pizza shop bracket.

Last week, we asked you to share your favorite place to get pizza in Madison. Now — thanks to you and the help of a random generator we have the official lineup for our bracket.

Who’s in the running

Going head-to-head in the first round are:
  • Grampa’s vs Sugar River | Known for its thin-crust pizzas, Grampa’s was named the most romantic restaurant in Wisconsin by Yelp. Sugar River allows you to top your customized pies with a drizzle of Sriracha, ranch, balsamic reduction, or maple-rosemary syrup.
  • Ian’s vs Glass Nickel | While both spots offer a variety of fun flavors, Ian’s is known for its giant late-night slices and Glass Nickel makes dough, sauce, and preps fresh veggies daily in-house.
  • Greenbush Bar vs Salvatore’s | Greenbush Bar’s rich history and Sicilian-style pizza make it a Regent Street favorite. Salvatore’s prides itself in using old-world techniques like slow fermenting dough from locally derived wheat.
  • Branch + Daughter vs Pizza Brutta | Pizza Brutta’s Neopolitan-style pies are made to order in an 800-degree wood oven. Branch + Daughter’s artisan pizzas are each finished with olive oil, Pecorino Romano, and spices.

How it works

Beginning today, we will host several voting rounds within our newsletters and social channels to determine Madison’s best pizza. Who moves on is up to you. Vote for your favorites, and the business with more votes moves on. Simple as that.

We’ll go until we have a champion, which will be announced in our Friday, March 29 newsletter. You will be able to vote once per round.

How to participate

Vote for the pizza you’d like to see advance to round two using this poll. You can vote for all four spots or as little as one. Once we count all the votes, we’ll share an updated bracket and new poll in an upcoming newsletter.

While filling in the pizza bracket, I came across Glass Nickel’s seasonal specials — a pickle pizza and dill pickle cheese curds. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m a big pickle person, so I might have to get in on that action... for research purposes, of course.
