Health
  • It’s estimated that about a third of the waste in the Dane County landfill is from wasted food and other organic material. Public Health Madison and Dane County is partnering with local organizations to find opportunities for that wasted food.
Sports
  • The 2024 Special Olympics Winter Games are coming and you can be involved. Cross-country skiing and snowshoe racing will be held at Nine Mile Forest. Alpine skiing and snowboarding will be held at Granite Peak. The organization is looking for volunteers.
Art
  • Any artsy types in the Atwood and Marquette neighborhoods? Applications are now open for artists to take part in Art Walk 2024, a self-guided tour through neighbors’ studios that will take place on May 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Cause
  • Madison’s Literacy Network was recently awarded a three-year, $375,000 grant from Ascendium Education Group. It will allow the organization to increase its services for Dane County residents struggling with low literacy. In 2022, the organization saw an 18% rise in participation from the previous year.
