Being surrounded by lakes means that Madisonians have a plethora of options when it comes to water activities. From angling to champagne cruises, here are a few H2Options for your next lake day.

Safety first

Madison lakes are notorious for blue-green algae blooms. When on the water, keep an eye out for murky patches that can appear blue-green, red, purple, or brown.

If you plan on sticking to the shores, be sure to check the city’s beach water quality page before your outing.

Schedule a well-woman exam to stay up-to-date on important screenings. | Photo by Tim Fitch Photography
When was the last time you saw your OB-GYN? If it’s been more than a year, then you’re due for a well-woman exam. Why? A preventive check-up now helps you avoid illness later.

Here are three important things to discuss with your provider:
  • Menstrual history: Come prepared with the date of your last period.
  • Family health history: Discussing conditions that run in your family can help your provider identify risk factors and recommend preventive measures.
  • Preventive care screenings: Check mammograms, Pap smears, and blood pressure checks off your list.
Now that you know how to navigate the conversation, schedule an exam to check in on your health.

I must confess... I’m not a fan of cream puffs. I know, I know — they’re an iconic fair staple, but they’re also messy, sticky, and not conducive for long lines + hot weather. Maybe I’d enjoy one in the comfort of my own home, but I’ll stick to corn dogs and lemonade at the fairs.
