Madison Metro Transit Network Redesign

The Madison Metro Transit Network Redesign is going into effect this Sunday, June 11. The redesign aims to increase access, decrease travel time, and improve the overall experience for transit riders.

Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming changes.

Routes

The majority of the new routes will be labeled with letters rather than numbers. Routes 80,81,82, and 84 will remain unchanged.

A few other routes will keep numeric labels as well, but the routes will be updated — 28, 38, 55, 65, and 75.

Transfer points

Transfer points will no longer be facets of the Metro Transit Network. The main goal of the redesign is to offer fewer transfers for easier, more efficient travel.

There are bus stops where many routes intersect, so if a trip does require multiple routes, there will be ample opportunities to connect with ease. The South Transfer Point will carry on as a standard bus stop on routes G, H, and O.

Ride Guides

Metro Ride Guide staff will be available at bus stops and on buses to assist locals in traversing the new system.

These Ride Guides will wear bright yellow vests and will be on duty for the first week that the new system is in place.

It’s Bike Week in Madison. Madison Bikes and Wisconsin Bike Fed have teamed up to make sure Madisonians have ample opportunities to celebrate the occasion.

Locals are invited to take a bike ride with Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway this morning following her 8:30 a.m. press conference at the Monona Terrace.

If morning bike rides with political figures aren’t your cup of tea, there are plenty of other bike-centric activities on the docket for the remainder of the week.

The main event is the Bike Week Party at Brittingham Park this Friday, June 9. Stop by 829 W. Washington Ave. from 4 to 7 p.m. for free, family-friendly fun including food, beer, and music.

World Naked Bike Ride

The fun doesn’t end when Bike Week wraps up. Next weekend marks the 13th annual World Naked Bike Ride in Madison. This international event occurs in multiple other US cities to raise awareness of the negative impact of petroleum products.

The ride begins at 11 a.m., but the specific route will not be made public to non-participants.

From the editor
With the World Naked Bike Ride coming up, I’m reminded of last year’s event. I was enjoying a wholesome Saturday morning at the farmers’ market, totally unaware that the WNBR was taking place the same day. Imagine my surprise and confusion when the square was suddenly flooded with nude cyclists. It should be far less jarring this year now that I have some context and forewarning.
