Join one of Madison’s city boards, committees, or commissions

Calling all movers and shakers. Are you ready to become an even more engaged citizen? Do you wish you knew more about the goings-on in the 608 before they happen? Make your voice heard by serving as a volunteer member on one of Madison’s 80 (yes, 80) city boards, committees, or commissions.

There are currently 50 vacancies spanning all sorts of topics, including the Committee on Aging, the Affirmative Action Commission, and the Board of Public Works.

Get involved

As long as you are a City of Madison resident, you’re eligible to apply for any vacant spots. These volunteer positions offer locals a chance to create and contribute to conversations that help city staff, the Common Council, and the Mayor make decisions that directly affect your fellow Madisonians.
  1. Scan the full list of Boards, Commissions, and Committees to see which are active and advertising vacancies.
  2. Found one that piques your interest? Check the meeting schedule to make sure you’ll be able to be an active participant.
  3. Email your application to the Mayor’s Office.
  4. Submit your Statement of Interests.
The Mayor’s Office will keep your application on record and review it as openings arise in your chosen areas of interest.

Wednesday, May 3
  • Madison’s Funniest Comic Finals | Wednesday, May 3 | Comedy on State, 202 State St., Madison | $10 | Who will be crowned Madison’s funniest comic? Find out this Wednesday.

  • Brews and Q’s Taproom Trivia | Thursday, May 4 | 6:30-8:30 p.m. | Karben4 Brewing, 3698 Kinsman Blvd., Madison | Free | Compete for prizes and sip on delicious beer during these 50+ questions of original trivia.

Civic
  • The City of Madison is inviting locals to participate in the planning and design of the new men’s shelter going up at 1904 Bartillon Dr. Check out the public meeting list to learn more about the designs and next steps.
Sports
  • League One Volleyball (LOVB) announced that Madison will be home to one of its professional volleyball teams. Also in the works — the development of a collaborative training facility with Madtown Juniors. Games are expected to kick off in 2024. (Madison.com)
Drink
  • New Glarus Brewing Company launched a new seasonal beer called New Glarus Pilsner, brewed by Dan Carey in pursuit of the perfect pilsner. The beer has an easy bitterness and will only be available in Wisconsin for a limited time. (NBC 15)
Community
Closing
  • Boneset Records is set to close this summer due to the owner relocating to Milwaukee. While its online storefront will remain, customers have until Saturday, June 10 to browse the brick-and-mortar selection at 222 North St. (Madison.com)
Outdoors
  • With help from the Urban Forestry Task Force, Madison’s Urban Forestry section planted 92 trees in previously vacant areas of Allied, Darbo-Worthington, Brentwood, and Owl Creek neighborhoods. These trees will eventually improve air quality and lower cooling costs.
