Sip and eat your way through some of the 608’s favorite fall foodie destinations. | Map via Proxi
Chances are you fall in one of two categories: You’re soaking up the last moments of summer sunor you’re eager for all things pumpkin spice. If you’re the latter, we have some exciting news for you.
Apple season is here. From doughnuts and pies to ciders and honey sticks, here are eight places to welcome the crisp air + autumn season.
Jones Orchard 📍 3005 Siggelkow Rd., McFarland Pick up a bushel from the farm celebrating 50 years of fall festivities in the Madison area.
Door Creek Orchard 📍 3252 Vilas Rd., Cottage Grove Opt for a you-pick experience or buy pre-picked from the orchards 89 varieties of apples. Pro tip: The orchard also sells apple wood perfect for smoking or grilling. Must-try: The specialty dessert — apple slices coated in caramel, whipped cream + nuts.
Alpine Ridge Orchard 📍 5610 Alpine Rd., Brooklyn Visit this historic farm with more than 2,300 apple trees and try family recipes for autumn favorites like apple crisps + turnovers.
Pleasant Springs Orchard 📍 2722 Williams Dr., Stoughton Stop by the family-owned farm to pick up fall fruit + see the turkeys, geese, and ducks that hang out on the property. Must try: The sweet-tart cider made with a blend of at least nine different apple varieties.
A day on the orchard is a Wisconsin tradition. Sometimes though, you just want to kick your feet up and leave it to the professionals. Try something with a little more spirit at one of these local cideries.
The Cider Farm 📍 8216 Watts Rd. Sip on ciders made from organically-grown English and French cider apples ripe with tannins — unlike traditional eating apples.
Restoration Cider 📍 6001 Femrite Dr. Support this cidery that’s giving back 5% of its profits to local STREAM restoration projects.
Hidden Cave Cidery 📍 2500 N. Pleasant View Rd., Middleton Pull up a seat at the UW-alumni-owned drinking cave + stay for events like yoga and live music.
Brix Cider 📍 119 S. 2nd St., Mt Horeb Try sustainable ciders crafted alongside the farm-to-table tasting room.
