Hello Monday.

January 31 2022

Give your coat a second life

Maybe you’ve recently cleaned out your closet — or your kids have outgrown last year’s winter apparel. Perhaps you decided to Marie Kondo your life. Whatever the case, if you’ve got extra hats or mittens to spare, now’s a good time to pass them along to those who may need them.

Here are some Dane County organizations that welcome cold-weather donations — including scarves, hats, blankets, gloves, and socks.

Please confirm with the organization(s) that your donation will serve their current needs.

Make sure all items are freshly cleaned + gently used | Photo by @svdpmadison

MOM

The Middleton Outreach Ministry focuses on bringing the community together to create food and housing security through action and advocacy.

What they accept: Winter clothes for men, women, and children, all sizes of tennis shoes, and bedding of all sizes — all clean + lightly worn.

To donate: Bring donations to the clothing center door on Mon. + Fri. from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. or Wed. from 2-4 p.m.

📍3502 Parmenter St., Middleton | ☎️ 836.7338 | ✉️ [email protected]

Sunshine Place C.A.R.D.S. Closet

A free clothing resource for children and youth in the Sun Prairie Area School District.

What they accept: For the Nov.-Mar. season, they’re looking for clean + gently used kid’s winter clothing — including coats, hats, gloves, and boots.

To donate: Place items in the large donation bin at 1632 W. Main St., Sun Prairie during donation hours — 8 a.m.-4 p.m. daily.

📍1623 W. Main St., Sun Prairie | ☎️ 825.3875 | ✉️ [email protected]

St. Vincent de Paul

The Society operates multiple programs in Dane County including a food pantry, a charitable pharmacy, seven thrift stores offering direct charity, housing, and other forms of assistance for people struggling with poverty.

What they accept: Clothing, furniture, and household items in clean, working condition.

To donate: Drop off items at a St. Vinny’s location, find a dropbox location, or schedule a free at-home pickup.
