The historic Greenbush neighborhood will soon be home to a new mixed-use development structure. CRG, a national real estate development + investment firm, has acquired a 0.8-acre site on the 800 block of Regent Street along with construction permissions.
đșïž Whatâs the plan?
Prepare to say your final goodbyes to the buildings that once hosted Fraboniâs and Buckinghamâs on Regent Street and get ready to say hello to a new multi-faceted development designed by Lamar Johnson Collaborative. Construction is projected to start next month, and the final product should be ready to roll circa the start of the 2024-25 academic year.
The plan is to build a 10-story mixed-use complex called Chapter at Madison. This complex will be equipped with 534 units â165 furnished â a large resident amenity suite, and roughly 2,200 sqft of commercial space aimed to serve the Greenbush neighborhood.
CRG has been working directly with local community groups to ensure that this will be a dynamic and cohesive addition to our city. A mural depicting the historical significance of the Greenbush neighborhood as well as a cultural exhibit within will be in place to honor the community.
đ Why here?
J.J. Smith, CRGâs managing partner and residential group leader, remarks that the UW campus is one of the most unique and scenic campuses in the nation â we canât argue with that. Flanked by two lakes and home to the state capitol, Madison is a pretty prime location. We canât blame these development companies for wanting a slice of the 608.
More specifically, Greenbush is a gem among Madisonâs 120 neighborhoods. From Vilas Beach to Regent Street and the UW Arboretum, we totally get why CRG chose this area for a community-focused project.
