Wisconsin’s the nation’s fifth largest producer of Christmas trees. | Photo by 608today

Though Wisconsin is known for its dairy, the state ranks No. 5 in the nation for Christmas tree production. There are 1,387 Christmas tree farms in the state, harvesting about 1.8 million trees annually.

Better for the environment than a plastic tree, go out and find one locally:

Enchanted Valley Acres , 5047 Enchanted Valley Rd., Cross Plains
The farm has all the warm cheer one might expect including hot cocoa, regular Santa visits, and plenty of trees.

Hann’s Christmas Farm , 848 Tipperary Rd., Oregon
With free admission, the business promises that you’ll leave with “Memories of an Old Fashioned Christmas.”

Ottman Family Christmas Trees , 759 Primrose Center Rd., Belleville
The family-owned business is celebrating over 50 years of Christmas tree farming.

Tree City , 5501 Schroeder Rd., Madison
For those not wanting to go far afield, Tree City, near the Beltline, has been serving Madison residents Christmas trees since 1977.
