The DNR is asking Wisconsinites to reduce holiday waste this year. Here are a few recycling tips to keep in mind:

Do recycle:

  • Flattened cardboard boxes
  • Wrapping paper sans glitter
  • Emptied aluminum cans

Don’t recycle:

  • Holiday light strings
  • Tissue paper
  • Plastic film/wrap

Trees

The City of Madison will do two rounds of holiday tree collection:

  • Round One: Tuesday, Jan. 2-Friday, Jan. 12
  • Round Two: Tuesday, Jan. 16-Friday, Jan. 26

The city will turn the trees into mulch, so residents must remove any unnatural material (Think: decorations).

Note: If your tree isn’t placed on the curb by Tuesday, Jan. 2, it may not be collected until Round Two. If your tree isn’t on the curb by Tuesday, Jan. 16, it may not be collected until spring.

Missed both deadlines? Feel free to bring your tree to a drop-off site near you.
